New issue of GMAP Maritime and Offshore Newsletter on the developments in the market of and among the players in Harbour Towage

October 2, 2019

In the history of the GMAP M&O Newsletter, the theme of "Dragging" is now being addressed for the second time. Major changes are taking place worldwide, prompted both by developments in the digital and sustainable fields and by economic and market conditions in the various geographic markets. Major shifts are taking place, the most notable of which is the withdrawal of one of the world's leaders from (part of) the tugboat world. Within these movements JBR is a beacon for many owners and operators and with many tug companies we were able to discuss their strategies.

At JBR, we see the market consolidating: due to the severe market conditions, large consolidations are taking place in Europe and Latin America, leading to a few "big towing companies" deploying their fleets in different countries and operating in the big ports, while the rest, more or less substantial companies, act in the smaller ports. The next wave of consolidation will take place in Asia, the new market.

On the other hand, several industrial companies do not rely on commercial towing operations and install their own tugboat, state-of-the-art, specification according to their special purpose and always available.
