Knowledge is of no value unless you put it into practice'.
That is why, after obtaining my bachelor's degree in business economics and master's degree in finance at the University of Groningen, I went straight to work for a corporate finance firm. There I became involved in company takeovers and valuation and financing issues. I worked on complex financial analyses, memoranda and market and sector studies.
I now put Heber J. Grant's quote into practice at JBR, where every day I contribute my knowledge and experience to the most diverse and far-reaching issues at the intersection of strategy and finance.
After a post-graduate study in Business Valuation at the RSM Erasmus University, I am now one of the 300 sworn Register Valuators who are affiliated with the Netherlands Institute for Register Valuations (NIRV).
Business Valuation is becoming increasingly professional and relevant, partly due to the changing takeover market. In a world of great uncertainty and shorter company life cycles, providing insight into risks is more important than ever. Valuations are also a useful tool in strategic decisions on divestments, for example when a conglomerate is reviewing its own portfolio.
